Breast Cancer Care at Anna Jaques Cancer Center

Advanced Treatment Personalized To Your Needs
You deserve cancer care that’s as unique as you are. Your care team will work with you to develop a personalized treatment plan that’s based on your cancer type, cancer stage, age and general health.
Treatment planning happens during a multidisciplinary clinic where you’ll meet with cancer specialists from many disciplines during one convenient appointment. The team will answer your questions, discuss your treatment options and provide a unified care plan.
Surgery
Many people with breast cancer have some type of surgery as part of their treatment. Surgery can help prevent and detect breast cancer, determine how much it has spread and remove tumors.
Anna Jaques Cancer Center offers several surgical treatment options for people with breast cancer:
- Lumpectomy — Surgery to remove only the tumor from your breast.
- Mastectomy — Surgery to completely remove your breast.
- Specialized procedures such as core biopsy, image-guided surgery and breast conservation techniques.
- Breast reconstruction during or after a mastectomy to achieve the best cosmetic results.
Additional Breast Cancer Treatments
Your care team may recommend other cancer treatments in addition to surgery. These can include the following:
- Chemotherapy uses powerful chemicals to kill fast-growing cells in your body or slow their growth.
- Lymphedema therapy, a massage-like technique that uses light pressure to treat lymphedema, a common side effect of breast cancer treatment. Lymphedema is swelling that can affect different parts of the body after cancer surgery.
Genetic Testing
Genetic testing may be part of your care plan, as well. It can help determine if your cancer is related to hereditary cancer syndromes. If so, you may choose to take additional steps for future cancer prevention and encourage other family members to get tested.
Based on your test results, your cancer care team will develop a screening and prevention strategy tailored to your individual cancer risks.
