Patient Grateful for Wound Care Close to Home
Hyperbaric Medicine Helps with Healing
Robert Tyler-Nelson, 79, received radiation therapy to treat prostate cancer, and afterward it was necessary for him to be treated at Anna Jaques Hospital’s Wound Healing & Hyperbaric Center for pain associated with his bladder. Hyperbaric Medicine is a medical treatment administered by delivering pressurized 100 percent oxygen to a patient in an enclosed chamber. The pure oxygen promotes and accelerates the healing process.
Anna Jaques Hospital’s Wound Healing & Hyperbaric Center was the first center in Massachusetts to receive full accreditation from the Undersea and Hyperbaric Medical Society (UHMS). The center at Anna Jaques Hospital proudly boosts a healing rate of 95 percent. Anna Jaques’ center is one of only four with this accreditation from UHMS.
After receiving his cancer treatment at Anna Jaques Hospital, Tyler-Nelson said he was pleasantly surprised and very thankful to find out there was an accredited wound center at AJH so close to his home in Byfield where he could receive the treatments. He credits the team of nurses in the Anna Jaques' Wound Healing & Hyperbaric Center with making the healing process easier. “They are such wonderful staff that see beyond the patient,” he said. “This is a scary thing to go through, and the nurses are the ones that make it bearable.”
Tyler-Nelson said recently he has spent a lot of time at Anna Jaques Hospital, and can’t imagine getting care anywhere else. “I have friends who go to Boston, and I think why?” you can get all the care you need right here at AJH, he said.
