Physical therapy expertise to get you moving again
Anna Jaques Hospital proudly partners with the YWCA of Newburyport to offer aquatic (water) therapy in its warm water pool, located at 13 Market Street, Newburyport, MA.
Aquatic therapy is a type of physical therapy that takes place in a pool or other aquatic environment under the supervision of a trained health care professional. Anna Jaques expert physical therapists lead these sessions.
Other names for aquatic therapy include water therapy, aquatic rehabilitation, aqua therapy, aquatic rehab, pool therapy, therapeutic aquatic exercise or hydrotherapy.
Aquatic therapy continues to grow in popularity as a safe complement or alternative to traditional land-based therapy. It’s suitable for children and adults of all ages and fitness levels. The soothing properties of water may appeal to you as an environment that can heal your body while improving your fitness level. Water therapy can also reduce your rehabilitation timeframe or overall stress level.
If you’ve experienced cancer at any time in your life, you may enjoy the YWCA Encore Program. It’s a free, session-based program that incorporates gentle exercises, relaxation techniques, information and peer group support. The program is safe, fun and therapeutic.
The land exercise program is specially designed to target areas that have been affected by surgery and treatment. Gentle, yet effective, exercises can improve your strength, mobility and flexibility. The warm water aquatic program relieves your affected muscles.
The peer group support sessions provide an opportunity for you to share your experiences in a safe and supportive environment. Participation is free. No membership required.
Contact the YWCA to sign up or for more information at 978-465-9922.
