About Dr. Sandford MD

Amanda Sandford, MD is a Board-Certified Pediatric Hospitalist with a passion for Newborn Medicine. She currently serves as the director of the Neonatal Hospitalist Program for Beth Israel Lahey Health and provides newborn care in the Klarman Family Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) and Cochrane Newborn Service at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center and in the community at Anna Jaques Birth Center and Special Care Nursery. Dr. Sandford is a clinical educator lecturing and teaching small group sessions for Harvard Medical Students and precepting the newborn component of the pediatrics clerkship. She previously served as an Associate Program Director for Curriculum and Evaluation for the Stanford Pediatrics Residency Program. Dr. Sandford has a particular interest in organizational culture and wellness, informed by her prior business experience.

She serves as co-chair of the multidisciplinary NICU Wellness Committee and a member of the Harvard Medical Faculty Physicians Wellness Committee. Dr. Sandford obtained a B.S. in Applied Economics from Cornell University, attended medical school at the University of California at San Diego and completed her Pediatrics training at Stanford University, where she was an Attending in the nursery, special care Nursery, and wards for 10 years before moving back to the North Shore to be closer to family.
